Mexico. The technical director of the Mexican Cycling Federation (FMC), Gabriel Espinosa, hoped that by the end of March the group of pedalists that will be in the selection process for the Youth Olympic Games will be integrated.

He explained that the event, to be held in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 2018 in what will be its third edition, changed the selection process and now it will be possible to classify a maximum of eight cyclists (four women and equal number of men).

He said that the classification will be held from April 1 to November 1, ahead of the Argentine competition, and a first team would be made up of two men, one for route and another for mountain.

A third would be composed of two women in the same tests. The pedalists that intervene in the route will do in the time trial, Criterium and great background, while the mountain would take part in elimination, short track and cross country.

Espinosa said that the result of the men would be added for a medal, as in women. While the other team with the possibility of qualifying would be BMX with a mixed squad (male and female).

Both would do their test and then add the result for an award. While the fourth would be for the BMX freestyle park mode for a mixed team, where each each also meets their test and adds the result.

He added that this time there will be a combination of tests such as the route and the mountain, but each cyclist will be focused on his.

He said the goal is to score points, so it will be sought in the Nations Cup, although in men the majority will be in Europe and only have one in the continent, which would be in Canada, and women would have two in Holland and one in Belgium.

Of the preselection, indicated that already worked with a 2016 ranking of the Federation, National and Pan American Cups and some Cups of Nations. The route would have between eight and 10 events and currently has a group of 10 to 12 pedalists. (
