FERNANDO GAVIRIA WINS NEW STAGE OF THE GIRO D'ITALIA

Rome. Colombian Fernando Gaviria (Quick-Step) won the Sprínt the fifth stage of the Giro d'Italia adding his second win in this edition of the race, having also imposed in the third.

Bob Jungels, his Luxembourg teammate, kept the leading pink jersey in the hometown goal of Vincenzo Nibali, winner of the 2016 Giro.

Gaviria, who won on Sunday in Cagliari, outclassed the Italian Jakub Mareczko and the Irishman Sam Bennett after 159 kilometers of distance between the localities of
Pedara and Messina.

The sixth stage will be held in Calabria, in southern Italy. The goal, in the thermal station Terme Luigiane, is situated in a climb of 2 kilometers to 5.3%. (AFP)
