SAN JUAN, ARGENTINA. The Vuelta a San Juan, Argentina, marks the beginning of the cycling calendar of the world. The competition began to be part of the most important races of the International Cycling Union -UCI- in 2017 and this edition is expected to be the stage for preparations for cyclists in the region.

In the Argentine competition there will be Colombian participation with Fernando Gaviria as head of the ranks of his Quick-Step squad. The Antioquia has twice conquered the Argentine event, equaling Maximiliano Richeze, who will be the squire of the national runner.

Nationals Jarlinson Pantano, Darwin Atapuma, Carlos Betancur and the presence of foreigners such as Vicenzo Nibali, Richard Carapaz, Rafal Majka and Jens Keukeleire will also compete.

The confirmation of the 26 teams was made in the previous months, so the organizers predict an event with a higher level of competition and stage so that in the next editions more international cyclists participate in it.

From January 21 to 28 and already has its list of participants, of the 26 teams, seven will be World Tour, five Pro Continental, seven continental and seven other national teams.

Tour 2018

For the 36th edition of the competition stages are expected for the conditions of each cyclist: mountain, sprint and time trial. For example, in the third stage, a time trial of 15 kilometers and fifth, with the arrival in the Alto Colorado.

The total mileage is similar to last year, with 959.4 km in 2018 compared to 930 km in the last edition, with the individual time trial also a bit longer: 14.4 km compared to 11.9 km in 2017.

In the last edition, the winner was Bauke Mollema from Trek Segafredo, the second place was occupied by the Spaniard Óscar Sevilla from Medellín Inder and the last position of the podium went to the Colombian Rodolfo Torres. (EFE)
