With the official registration of all participants, the Pan American Track Championships announced that 138 cyclists from 18 countries will compete for medals and the last points for the Olympic ranking of this specialty, starting this Wednesday in Los Angeles, United States.
According to the official website of the event, the nations that will be represented in the velodrome of the VELO Sports Center at Dignity Health Sports Park are Mexico, Argentina, United States, Venezuela, Trinidad and Tobago, Colombia, Chile, Canada, Brazil, Ecuador, Peru, Suriname, Paraguay, Barbados, Cuba, Guatemala, Jamaica and El Salvador.
Among the names that stand out are Mexicans Yareli Acevedo, Luz Daniela Gaxiola and Jessica Salazar, Trinidadians Quincy Alexander and Akil Campbell, Colombians Martha Bayona and Juan Esteban Arango, Cuban Marlies Mejías and Canadian Kelsey Mitchell.
It is the first time that the United States hosts a continental track championship and according to the intentions of the Organizing Committee will serve to test the entire structure of the velodrome to be used in the Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles 2028.
On the first day of Wednesday, the team sprint and scratch titles for both sexes will be discussed, while on the second day the medals will be shared in the team pursuit between men and women, as well as in the men’s kerin and the elimination race for women.
On Friday the podium will be announced in the points race and individual pursuit for men, as well as in the omnium and pure sprint for women; while on Saturday there will be the definition of the men’s champions in the sprint and omnium, and the 500 meters time trial and the points race in the women’s sector.
The finals of the keirin (f), the madison (f and m), the elimination race (m) and the kilometers against the clock (m) will be held on Sunday.
