The National Cycling Federation (FGC) reported in an official statement that the 61st edition of the Cycling Tour of Guatemala, which was scheduled from October 23 to November 1, will not be held due to the situation that the country is going through due to the pandemic. of the coronavirus.

“This day we received from the Ministry of Health the notification about the objection to the development of the great event, given the situation that the country is going through in relation to the covid-19 pandemic and its new variants,” says the statement published by the National Federation of Cycling.

The announcement of the cancellation of the Vuelta a Guatemala 2021 was made during a live broadcast on Facebook. Stuard Rodríguez, president of the Federation, read the statement and, although he regretted the mandatory pause due to the difficult situation the country is in due to the pandemic, he assured that the most important thing is to take care of the Guatemalan population.

“We have been very demanding in biosafety care within the activities, because we understand that health is the priority good for the performance of any activity in which we operate, that is why as a Federation, we have been holding a series of meetings for a long time together with the authorities of the Ministry of Health ”, adds the Federation in the document.

The decision was made because “to date they show an Epidemiological Traffic Light with 305 municipalities in red, 21 in orange and 14 in yellow.”

In the last edition of the Vuelta a Guatemala, held in 2020, the national cyclist Mardoqueo Vázquez consecrated himself and celebrated in a big way, in a competition that had to follow several guidelines due to the pandemic.
