In a final for sprinters, Venezuelan Arlex Méndez (Alicanto Consulting Group-Lotería del Táchira) won the sixth stage of the 61st edition of the Tour of Venezuela, after riding 120 kilometers around San Felipe, the capital city of Yaracuy state. Colombian Walter Vargas (Team Medellín-EPM) maintained the lead of the race.

The 19-year-old rider crossed the finish line first ahead of his compatriots Edwin Torres (Alicanto Consulting Group-Lotería del Táchira) and Luis Gómez (MU Training – País Futuro). The best Colombian of the day was Anthuar González (JB Ropa de Ciclismo / Café La Roca) in 8th place.

As for the overall individual classification, Antioquia’s Walter Vargas (Team Medellin-EPM) remains firmly in the lead, escorted by his teammate Javier Jamaica. The podium is completed by Venezuelan Luis Guillermo Mora (Gobernación de Trujillo Orbea).

The breakaway of the day was led by Fernando Briceño (Team Trululu) and Yoisnerth Rondón (Team Caraboo), but entering the final phase they were neutralized by the peloton. Then the men of the Ecuadorian Team Saitel tried, but were unsuccessful and had the same luck of all the attempts of the day.

The Tour of Venezuelan will continue this Saturday with the seventh stage, a circuit in Valencia, with a distance of 160 kilometers. The successor of Venezuelan Cesar Sanabria, last year’s champion, will be announced this Sunday in Caracas.
