In another sprint finish, this time it was the turn of Biniam Girmay (Intermarché – Wanty) to win stage 12 of the Tour de France 2024 between Aurillac and Villeneuve-sur-Lot, with 203.6 kilometers.

The Eritrean sprinter, who won his third victory in the French round, was the fastest in the bunch sprint, beating Belgian Wout van Aert (Team Visma | Lease a Bike) and German Pascal Ackermann (Israel – Premier Tech). The best Colombian of the day was Fernando Gaviria (Movistar Team) in 16th position with the same time as the winner.

Just launched the race several men, who were not afraid in the general classification, tried to form several leading groups in the early stages, among the protagonists was the Ecuadorian Richard Carapaz (EF EducationEasyPost), but was unsuccessful, as happened the day before.

The breakaway of the day was led by Valentin Madouas (Groupama – FDJ), Quentin Pacher (Groupama – FDJ), Jonas Abrahamsen (Uno-X Mobility), Anthony Turgis (TotalEnergies), but with less than 45 kilometers to go the four adventurers were caught by the peloton.

In the final stretch of the stage the fast men began to watch each other, and everything was defined to the sprint where the African Biniam Girmay (Intermarché – Wanty), appeared to take his third victory in the Grand Bouclé.

This Friday, July 12, will be the 13th stage of the French round, starting in Agen and finishing in Pau, on a 165.3-kilometer route that includes two fourth-category mountain passes at the finish. The successor to Danish Jonas Vingegaard, last year’s champion, will be announced on Sunday, July 21 in Nice.
