The eyes of Caribbean cycling will be on Guyana this weekend when the country hosts more than 80 riders from 18 nations at the 2024 Caribbean Cycling Elite/U23 Caribbean Road Championships and the annual Caribbean Cycling Union Congress.
In addition to the local team, representations from Cuba, Puerto Rico, Cayman Islands, Belize, Suriname, Dominican Republic, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Dominica, Jamaica, Bermuda, St. Lucia, Anguilla, Trinidad and Tobago, Grenada, Guadeloupe, Barbados and Curacao are already on Guyanese soil.
According to the program, the 85-kilometer elite women’s road race will take place on Saturday at 9 a.m., while two hours later the Men’s Individual Time Trial will be held on the same course.
On Sunday, the 155-kilometer men’s individual road race will take place, starting from the Linden along the East Bank Corridor to the Heroes Highway circuit. This will be followed by the women’s individual time trial on the Mandela/Eccles/Heroes Highway course.
The Cuban, Puerto Rican and Trinidadian cyclists are the ones who have historically accumulated the most victories in Caribbean races, together with the Dominicans and Barbadians, who will once again have the best chances of taking the podiums in the four events on the calendar, which will distribute places for the Junior Pan American Games of Asuncion 2025.
