With the best balance of the day: two golds and an equal amount of silver, Colombia started ahead in the Pan American Road Championship, which began on Wednesday 23 in Punta del Este, Uruguay, with the participation of more than 400 cyclists from America, organized by the Pan American Cycling Confederation with the support of the Municipality of Maldonado.
The United States retained the individual time trial title won in Brazil last year with Ruth Edwards, who succeeded her compatriot Amber Neben, winner in 2024 and 2023, at the top of the podium.
The 31-year-old American was the best in the time trial, recording a time of 34:44″ over 26.2 kilometers. Edwards flew in the timed exercise and conquered the gold medal. The American Emily Ehrlich and the Trinidadian Teniel Campbell, completed the podium of the day’s time trial, with silver and bronze, respectively.
In the same race, but in the junior category, the Colombian road team marked a visible dominance, making the 1-2 with the Antioquian Luciana Osorio, winner of the gold medal and Estefania Castillo, awarded with the silver medal.
In this way Osorio, who managed to revalidate what she did in Brazil last year, adds a new title in this specialty, in which she had just won gold at the Bolivarian Youth Games. In addition, Colombia has won three consecutive competitions in this event, since Juliana Londoño won in 2023.
Colombia also won gold and silver in the junior men’s individual time trial with Jerónimo Calderón and José Manuel Posada. The Team Sistecrédito junior was the fastest in the 26.2 kilometers time trial held this Wednesday in Uruguayan territory. The silver medal went to Posada, who lost more than a minute with his compatriot. The podium was closed by the Chilean Luciano Carrizo.
This Thursday the actions of the continental competition continue with the discussions of the titles in the time trial for U23 and elite men.
