BMX marked the beginning of cycling in the Ayacucho 2024 Bicentennial Bolivarian Games, a multiple event in which Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Panama, Venezuela and the hosts Peru compete.
In the individual free BMX cycling event, Colombia took first place, winning a total of three medals: two gold and one bronze.
Colombia’s Queen Saray Villegas, who placed fourth at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, won the gold medal in the women’s category. In the men’s category, the gold was won by Luis Oswaldo Rincón.
Chile won two silver medals thanks to Catalina Henríquez and José Cedano, in the women’s and men’s categories, respectively. Peruvian Job Arnol Montañez Soto won the bronze medal.
The cycling competitions will continue with the downhill modality, which will take place on December 2 at Cerro Campanayoc Norte, in Huamanga, Ayacucho. Cross country cycling will close this discipline next Saturday, December 7.
