Many years have passed, many laps and kilometers of joys and sufferings until reaching the pinnacle with a title that consecrates him in the Olympus of the champions of the Tour of Táchira. He had been looking for it and there was always some obstacle.
Eduin Becerra, from Merida, closes the sports cycle of more than twenty years in cycling with a dreamed trophy that he waited with much patience, and as God’s timing is perfect, the time came for him to enjoy the taste of victory.
With a total time of 29h.11m.08s Eduin Becerra is consecrated among the champions of the Andean Tour, after hard work and knew how to take advantage of his experience to put on the leader’s jersey in La Grita and then defend it until the last pedal stroke in the velodrome.
The winner of stage 8 was the Colombian Brandon Rojas (2.42.35). The circuit marked the end of a tour that had in Ángel Rivas the mountain champion, Edwin Torres champion of the sprints, Camilo Gómez the best U23, Edgar Pinzón with the prize of the Youngest, Arlex Méndez the leader by points.
From a land of champions, where children rise between coffee plantations and the chores of the field, a young man emerged 40 years ago who began to harden his character between the long working days and the passion for riding a bicycle. Eduin Becerra is part of a group of riders of brave lineage, who chisel their effort and dreams of being idols in the midst of the nobility and fighting spirit of their ancestors.
Many years have passed, many laps and kilometers of joys and sufferings until reaching the pinnacle with a title that consecrates him in the Olympus of the champions of the Vuelta al Táchira. He had been looking for it and there was always some obstacle. A better-placed teammate, a capo with more epaulettes, a coach with other preferences, but he silently held on and waited for the opportunity. It seemed that his best years were coming and with almost forty years behind him it was unthinkable to reach success.
But only Eduin Becerra believed it and with the same courage that forged his character between mountains and crops he understood that the Vuelta al Táchira of 2025 would be the one to seal an exemplary career, with many sacrifices and heartaches, but with his head held high for achieving in more than two decades to harvest those great friends that cycling leaves.
Eduin is the champion in the Diamond Jubilee of the Tachira’s giro. An achievement to tell his children, family and friends of the bucolic and peaceful Santa Cruz.
