After two Colombian victories, the Ecuadorian Byron Guamá ended the hegemony of the scarabajos and won the third stage of the Tour of Guatemala 2024. The experienced Ecuadorian Movistar Best PC rider was the strongest of the breakaway and won the stage, after riding 113.5 kilometers between Ciudad Vieja and Santa Lucia.

The South American rider, who achieved his ninth victory in the history of the Guatemalan round, beat Costa Rican Daniel Bonilla (Team Colono Bikestation Kölbi) and Guatemalan Alejandro Sisimith (Red Hook), who came in 2nd and 3rd, respectively.

In this way Byron Guamá approached the record of the Mexican cyclist Carlos Manuel Hernández, who holds the title of the foreigner with more stage wins in this competition, with 11 victories. With this new conquest, the experienced 39-year-old cyclist, originally from Espejo, Ecuador, continues to build an impressive legacy on Guatemalan soil.

In the third stage of the Vuelta a Guatemala 2024, Guatemalan cyclist Elí Sisimit, originally from Tecpán, Chimaltenango, stood out as the best national rider on this day, securing two important positions in the stage award.

Sisimit took third place both in the flying finish at the Santa Lucía Cotzumalguapa Park and in the Yepocapa Boulevard Mountain Award, in a stage that was historic for taking the competition, for the first time, to the municipality of San Pedro Yepocapa.

With regard to the Colombians, the best was Johan Colón (Orgullo Paisa), who reported in the fourth position at 1:13 of the winner, while Aldemar Reyes was the most outstanding of Team Medellín-EPM, occupying the sixth place at 1:23 of Guamá.

As for the general classification, David González (Team Medellín-EPM) maintained the leadership of the race. The second place is occupied by Róbinson López (GW Erco Shimano) from Boyacá, more than a minute behind the leader.

The Chapin round will continue this Monday with the fourth stage, another leg-breaking day of 125 kilometers between Mazatenango and Coatepeque, which includes two categorized mountain prizes.
