In a flat day with few emotions, Elizabeth Castaño (Colombia Potencia de la Vida) was victorious in the first stage of the Vuelta a Colombia Femenina 2024. The fraction was developed in the surroundings of Cartagena over a distance of 101.9 kilometers.

The rider from Antioquia was the fastest in the definition and won the stage ahead of Diana Carolina Peñuela (DNA Pro Cycling Team) and the Italian Valentina Basilico (Eneicat – CM Team).

The completely flat fraction under a relentless sun, which had no climbs, was controlled by the favorite teams which made it impossible to build breakaways along the route.

In the final phase, the rain was present, which complicated the peloton in the last kilometers where there were several crashes. Ana Cristina Sanabria (Colombia Potencia de la Vida) was one of those affected.

This Wednesday will be disputed the second stage of the Colombian women’s round, with another flat fraction of 127.4 kilometers between Cartagena and Barranquilla.
