The Costa Rican Gabriel Rojas, of the 7C Economy Lacoinex, became the first cyclist of that country to win the Tour of Panama, at the same time that the chiricano Franklin Archibold won the sixth and last stage disputed today Sunday in the Cinta Costera 3, in Panama City.
Rojas registered in the six stages run 10 hours 43 minutes and 22 seconds, escorted by his fellow countrymen Joseph Ramirez (Accipal Rally Costa Rica) at 1:43 minutes and Luis Aguilar (7C Economy Lacoinex) at 1:55 minutes.
“We are very satisfied with the work done by the team, without them we could not get this kind of triumphs. Thanks to God for everything we received in this event, which was of a high competitive level,” said Gabriel Rojas Campos, 24 years old.
The final day of the Tour of Panama was a closed circuit, organized by the Mayor’s Office of Panama and Pandeportes, with 95 kilometers, divided into ten laps, with two intermediate sprints which were won by Bredio Ruiz (Panama es Cultura y Valores) in lap four and Sergio Arias (Colono Bikestation) in lap eight.
The stage was dominated by Franklin Archibold with a time of 2 hours 04 minutes and 39 seconds, while his Divisa teammate Christofer Jurado was second and the “tico” Joseph Ramirez (Accipal Rally Costa Rica) was third.
“It was a day that suited our resources as a rider. We decided to go for it and in the end we did it,” said Archibold, who won three stages in this 2024 version of the Tour.
Also crowned champions were Joseph Ramírez, in the Under-23, Kendal Fernández (Accipal Rally Costa Rica) in Junior, Francisco González (Caminos de Omar) in Veterans A, Cristian Fajardo (Vitamalt ILC Bikes) in Master B.
Archibold took the points classification with 48 points and Gabriel Rojas was the champion of the mountains.
The Tour of Panama fulfilled all expectations in terms of competition, tourism and economy. The fans enjoyed six days of action on the roads of Cocle, Colon and Panama.
