The Mexican Daniel Campuzano and the Colombian Jhonatan Botero were the last cycling champions in the Central American and Caribbean Games San Salvador 2023, by winning the Mountain Bike modality, held precisely on the concluding date of the contest.

Campuzano led the cross country test by completing the five laps of the circuit prepared at Ecoparque El Espino in one hour, 20 minutes and eight seconds. Behind them was the Costa Rican Adriana María Rojas, who did it in 1:23:07 hours; while the bronze corresponded to the Colombian Ana María Roa, after setting a time of 1:23:52 hours.

“It is a great honor to be the last gold medalist of the Mexican delegation, according to what they told me, and also to have retained the crown that I achieved in Barranquilla 2018, especially in games that have been so competitive,” declared one of the emblematic figures of Mexico in this appointment, as it was the standard bearer at the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic Games.

In the men’s sector, the mountain biker Botero bathed in gold and snatched from the Mexican José Ulloa the possibility of reissuing his title, after finishing second by a difference of 54 seconds. The bronze went to the Puerto Rican Georwill Pérez, who came 2:02 behind the winner of the day.

The competitions were held near the San Salvador volcano to have a setting of lively and exciting nature, in a grand closing for the cycling of these Games, in which points were awarded for the respective rankings that aim at the road to the Olympic Games in Paris 2024.
