The delegations of Costa Rica, Guatemala and Honduras celebrated champions on the first day of the Central American MTB-XCO Championship, held this Thursday at the San Agustín Bike Park track, route to El Salvador, in Guatemala City, where the best of this modality in the region.
Of the six modalities with points for the ranking and classification to the World Championship of the specialty in Glasgow, the Costa Ricans prevailed in four, while one per capita went to the breasts of Guatemalan and Honduran cyclists.
The harvest of medals for the Costa Rican delegation at the San Agustín Bike Park began with Isabel García in the youth category, ahead of the locals Nahomy Hiayra Leonardo and María Jazmín Alvardo. Then, two more women contributed gold: Isabella Gómez in the sub 23 and Milagros Mena in the elite.
The gold of Milagros was well disputed, because in the final stretch of the competition the Guatemalan Flory De León presented mechanical damage to her bicycle, and in this situation, she had to get off and start walking towards the finish line, which her rival took advantage of. to surpass him and raise the scepter.
The presence of Costa Rica at the top of the podium also reached the Under 23 men’s category, a modality in which they monopolized the first three places with Luis Aguilar, Joseph Ramírez and Jared Méndez.
The Guatemalans had in Danielito Christian López the champion of the men’s youth category, ahead of his teammate Gabriel Sáenz and the Costa Rican Adriano González.
Finally, in the Elite category for men, the victory corresponded to Honduran Luis López, over Costa Rican Andrey Fonseca and Guatemalan Jhonathan León.
It should be noted that on this day other categories not eligible for UCI were also held, such as the children’s categories, precadets, master A and B and paracycling in which complete dominance went to the local country with eight gold medals.
