The fifth stage of the Tour of Costa Rica 2024 proved to be prey to the breakaway, where Cormac McGeough (Canel’s-Java) was the best of the breakaway, emerging victorious in a 191-kilometer stage between Quepos and Golfito. Costa Rican Luis Daniel Oses (7C-Economy Lacoinex) maintained the lead.
The Irish rider took the stage victory, ahead of Costa Ricans Joseph Ramírez (CMS-Prefabricados San Carlos) and Jason Huertas (Team Colono Bikestation Kölbi), who finished second and third, respectively.
Regarding the general classification, Costa Rican Luis Daniel Oses (7C-Economy Lacoinex) kept the yellow leader’s jersey. The second place is occupied by the Dutchman Lars Quaedvlieg (Universe Cycling Team) at 1:33 behind the solid leader, while the boyacense Heiner Parra (Canel’s-Java) remained in the top 20.
The Central American race will continue on Wednesday with the sixth stage, a crucial 31.9-kilometer individual time trial between Ciudad Neily and San Vito. The successor of Juan Diego Alba, last year’s champion, will be announced on December 22 in Heredia (Costa Rica).
