In another sprint finish, Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin-Deceuninck) achieved his first stage victory in the French round after winning the tenth stage by a comfortable sprint.
The 26-year-old Belgian sprinter took the victory after riding 187.3 kilometers between Orléans and Saint-Amand-Montrond. Second was Eritrean Biniam Girmay (Intermarché – Wanty) and third was German Pascal Ackermann (Israel – Premier Tech).
The question is whether the Tour de France, as great as it is, the most important race in the world without any doubt, an event that transcends the sport, can continue to allow embarrassing shows like the one we lived this Tuesday with a total and absolute lack of competitiveness that turned the broadcast of the stage into a challenge to keep your eyes open in a few days in which the heat of summer already tightens and the slump after lunch encourages to enjoy a glorious nap.
As for today’s stage, a day that linked Orléans and Sain Amand Montrond through a route of 187 kilometers flat as the palm of the hand and that, except for some small acceleration to seek good placement in the changes of direction of the route, offered absolutely nothing in the sporting.
The best Colombian of the day was Fernando Gaviria (Movistar Team) in the top 5, followed by Egan Bernal (Ineos Grenadiers) in 38th position, and finally, Harold Tejada (Astana Qazqstan) in 162nd place, more than a minute behind the winner.
Belgian Kobe Goossens (Intermarché – Wanty) was awarded as the most combative of the day, in a day of few attacks and in which no breakaway prospered.
This Wednesday, July 10, will be the eleventh stage of the French round, starting in Évaux-les-Bains and finishing in Le Lioran, on a 211-kilometer route that includes six categorized mountain passes. The successor to Danish Jonas Vingegaard, last year’s champion, will be announced on Sunday, July 21 in Nice.
