In a finish at full speed, Jhonatan Restrepo (GW Shimano Sidermec) achieved his first international victory of the year with a spectacular triumph in Italy, at the Giro della Città Metropolitana di Reggio Calabria, a category 1.1 race, belonging to the UCI calendar of Europe, with which he added 125 points for the ranking.
In his fourth race of the season on Italian soil, Restrepo prevailed in packing a small group, after covering a distance of 162.4 kilometers over undulating terrain between Riace Marina and Reggio Calabria.
The 28-year-old cyclist from Caldas, who had just run the Giro de Sicilia, beat the Argentine Nicolás Tivani (Team Corratec) and the Italian Mirco Maestri (Eolo-Kometa) in the packing.
At the end of the Italian race, the winner expressed his satisfaction with his great victory. “Very happy for this victory in Europe, I had always missed it. Very happy to give this gift to Gianni Savio on his birthday, ”Restrepo told the Antena Dos radio station.
“This victory will be unforgettable, winning will always be comforting and even more if you do it abroad and leaving the name of Colombian cycling high. This is my third victory of the season and I want to dedicate it to all the members of the team who make it possible for us to achieve these significant achievements”, added the man from Calda, with a past in Katusha, in the extinct Manzana Postobón team and in Androni Giocattoli.
