This Wednesday started at the National Olympic Velodrome of Asuncion, Paraguay, the competitions of the Pan American Track Elite Championship, in which the teams of Mexico, the United States and Trinidad and Tobago won the first titles.
In the elite women’s scratch race, Yareli Acevedo, from Mexico, won the gold medal, followed by Marlies Mejías, from Cuba, with the silver, and Araceli Galeano, from Paraguay, who won the bronze. Venezuela’s Verónica Abreu took fifth place in a close competition that highlighted the quality of the participants.
In the men’s team pursuit, the classification was led by the United States with a time of 03:57.903, followed by Canada (03:59.403) and Colombia (04:00.432). Venezuela took seventh place with a time of 04:09.229, securing its place in the next phase. The Paraguayan and Bolivian teams failed to advance in this stage.
Finally, in the men’s team sprint, Colombia topped the classification with a time of 00:44.076, followed by Trinidad and Tobago (00:44.087) and Canada (00:44.719). Venezuela failed to advance, finishing in tenth place with a time of 00:48.258. In the decisive stage, the Trinidadians overcame the Colombians and took the gold medal.
