The formidable Colombian rutero, Rigoberto Urán, Olympic road runner-up in London 2012, announced that he will retire as a professional cyclist at the end of this season, during a recent interview with the Podcast El Arranque, of the newspaper El Colombiano.
In addition to his successful career in international cycling, the ‘Toro de Urrao’, who has established himself as one of the most media figures in the national arena, revealed that he plans to venture into professional soccer, a dream he has had for a long time.
“I’m going to dedicate myself to professional soccer, it’s a frustrated dream, and I’m going to try to see what happens,” said the Antioquian, who is more than ready to take the step to his new sport after his retirement, so we will have to wait to see what the future holds for him.
The 37-year-old cyclist is determined to do everything possible to become a footballer, but he did not specify whether he has plans to join a club in Colombia or abroad, so we must wait to see what will happen in the coming days with the paisa athlete.
Also, the rider from Urrao, Antioquia, who ends his professional cycling career at the end of the year, said that, as for his retirement from the sport of cranks, everything continues as planned and without changes.
“What we decided this year about retirement we have ready. As you know, I finish my contract with my team (EF Education-EasyPost) in December and in 2025 I will be doing different things. I am grateful to the people who supported me in my career, so I leave cycling calm and happy,” Urán concluded.
