COCHABAMBA. COCHABAMBA The Pan American Track Cycling Championship 2019 ended this Sunday at the majestic velodrome of this city, which was attended by more than a hundred cyclists from 19 countries of the American continent and awarded points for the Olympic ranking of the International Cycling Union (UCI).

During the continental track competition, six world and sixteen Pan American records were established, which confirms the quality of the competing cyclists and the excellent technical conditions of the ICU’s majestic Class 1 velodrome track, built with the support of the government that heads the Bolivian president Evo Morales Ayma.

The six world records were implanted by the American Ashton Lambie, twice in individual persecution (4: 06.407 and 4: 05.423); Paul Nicholas, from Trinidad and Tobago, in the 200 meter individual sprint test (9,100); Jair Tjon En Fa, from Suriname, managed to break this same record a minute earlier with 9,249 seconds.

In the women’s branch, the Colombian Martha Bayona beat the universal sprint mark with 10,360 seconds, which was later improved by Canada’s Kelsey Mitchell (10,154), during the qualifying tests.

The Bolivian Cycling Federation, headed by Mrs. Sonia Ramos Acuña, responded to the expectations of COPACI and the UCI with the excellent organization of this continental event, which leaves a pleasant taste for the future of cycling in this South American country.

In the final country medal table, the Canadian delegation won first place with 8 gold, 2 silver and five bronze medals, while the United States (6-3-3) and Mexico (2-7-1 ), occupied positions two and three, respectively. (Copaci Press)
