The second stage of the 44th version of the International Tour of Chiriqui was completed with a route of 140.9 kilometers in which the Panamanian cyclists excelled, led by Joel Moreno, of the Caminos de Omar team.
The local cyclist took first place with a time of 3 hours, 22 minutes and 59 seconds. He was followed by Colombian Juan Pablo Restrepo, from the Comercializadora Farmacia Birdman team, and third place went to Costa Rican Joseph Ramírez, who is part of the Esparza Training team.
Moreno, who comes from the village of 24 de diciembre (district of Panamá), consolidated his victory in the final kilometers of the race, with the support of his teammates.
During the day a mountain prize was awarded on the ascent of El Zorro. This was awarded to the Panamanian Christofer Jurado, of the Panama es Cultura y Valores team. His teammate and compatriot, Bolivar Espinosa, led the Regularity with 22 points.
Michael Caballero, from Team Rally Giant, and Fernando Ureña, from the Azúcar Doradita team, are the leaders in the Under-23 and Master A categories, respectively.
Panamanian David Díaz Falconet, from Team Rali Giant, remains at the top of the overall individual classification of the competition. With his performance in Friday’s stage, he accumulated a time of 7 hours, 53 minutes and 37 seconds.
Bolivar Espinosa is in second place, seven seconds behind the leader, and Michael Caballero is third with a 12-second gap. Colombian Edison Osorio (Comercializadora Farmacia Birdman) is in fourth place, 18 seconds behind.
The competition will continue on Saturday, November 23 with the third stage. This consists of a closed circuit that starts and ends in the surroundings of the Volcan Boulevard.
The circuit consists of 82.5 kilometers that the participating cyclists will complete in 15 laps of 5.5 kilometers each. The day will begin at 11:00 am.
The International Tour of Chiriqui is one of the most important and traditional cycling competitions in Panama. This event, which is held annually in the province of Chiriqui, in the west of the country, brings together national and international cyclists, making it a spectacle that attracts large crowds and has a great impact on the sports scene.
