The third stage of the Vuelta a Bantrab 2024 was disputed and the Colombian beetles continue giving something to talk about in Guatemalan territory. This time the victory went to Rodrigo Contreras (Nu Colombia), after riding 101.8 kilometers between Momostenango and San Pedro Sacatepéquez.

Contreras was the strongest in the final part and took the victory ahead of the solid leader, Ecuadorian Jonathan Caicedo (Forte Petrolike – Androni Giocattoli) and Javier Jamaica (Team Medellín-EPM), who came in 2nd and 3rd, respectively.

As for the general classification, the Ecuadorian Jonathan Caicedo (Forte Petrolike – Androni Giocattoli) remained as leader, and was two days away from a new title for his sporting record. The experienced South American rider, who already won this year’s Vuelta al Táchira, had no problem staying in front of the overall individual classification.

The breakaway of the day was led by Colombians Javier Jamaica (Team Medellín-EPM), Rodrigo Contreras (Nu Colombia), Daniel Méndez (Nu Colombia), Juan Diego Alba (Movistar Best-PC) and Ecuadorian Jonathan Caicedo (Forte Petrolike – Androni Giocattoli), but before reaching the penultimate mountain pass in Santa Irene they were caught by a chasing group.

This Saturday, May 4, the fourth and penultimate fraction will be disputed, a key day to define the final podium of the Chapinan race, which will be run between Catarina and San Rafael Pie de la Cuesta with a distance of 105 kilometers. The successor of the Spanish Óscar Sevilla, last year’s champion, will be known on Sunday in Quetzaltenango (Guatemala).
