The elective assembly of the Colombian Cycling Federation was held in the city of Bogotá, which elected the new executive committee for the period 2025 – 2029, which will be presided over by Rubén Darío Galeano from Cundinamarca, Colombia.
Galeano was elected to take over the position from Mauricio Vargas. He has extensive experience in cycling, and currently served as director of the national cycling commission.
“It’s a pretty big challenge we have. We are committed to move forward in the Colombian Cycling Federation, to make a transformation, to grow it, to work with the leagues, with the clubs, to go to the minor categories, to the educational issue and innovation, which is one of the proposals that Dr. Lucena brings and to do a very big job with the private sponsor. We are going to work very hard,” said Galeano.
The assembly was held in the auditorium of the Tryp Hotel in the capital of the republic, where the new members of the executive committee, including Ernesto Lucena, Gen. Carlos Rodríguez, Dr. Jorge Colmenares, Carlos Pajón, Armando Morelos Peña and Claudia Viviana Posada Roldán, were announced.
“An honor to be invited to be part of this team. I think we have an impressive school. This is the sport I love, what is done with passion, love and knowledge generally bears good fruit. We have to bet on innovation and development within Colombian cycling, we have to open the doors of private enterprise again,” said former Minister of Sport Ernesto Lucena.
The presidents of 21 leagues affiliated to the federation, since four of them left the premises, were in charge of electing the new members of the executive committee.
The lawyer Mauricio Vargas, a native of Santa Rosa de Viterbo, Boyacá, leaves office after four years as president of the entity, which had Hernando Zuluaga as vice-president, who will not be able to continue due to regulations.
