The second stage of the Santos Tour Down Under 2025 brought a new victory for Sam Welsford (Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe). The Australian was again the fastest in the sprint, in a 128.8-kilometer stage around the town of Tanunda, in southern Australia.

Welsford, who won his second consecutive victory in the Australian round, this time beat Belgian Arne Marit (Intermarché – Wanty) and Frenchman Bryan Coquard (Cofidis), 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Regarding the Colombians, Esteban Chaves (EF Education – EasyPost) came in 37th, followed by Diego Pescador (Movistar Team) in 43rd place, and then Sergio Higuita (XDS Astana Team) in 59th place, all three with the same time as the winner.

The breakaway of the day was led by German Georg Zimmermann (Intermarché – Wanty), Austrian Patrick Konrad (Lidl – Trek) and Australian Fergus Browning (Australian National Team), but in the final kilometers the three adventurers were neutralized by the peloton.

In the general classification, Australian Sam Welsford (Bora-Hansgrohe) consolidated his lead with a 14-second advantage over Belgian Arne Marit (Intermarché – Wanty).

The Australian World Tour race will continue with the third stage, an undulating 147.5-kilometer route that will take the riders from Norwood to Uraidla.
