The ninth stage of the Vuelta a Costa Rica, starting and finishing in Paraíso, became the perfect setting for a cycling party on Christmas Eve, with Sebastián Moya’s attack less than 30 kilometers from the end and the direct duel between the favorites for the title: Juan Diego Alba (Movistar Best PC), Kevin Rivera (7C Economy Lacoinex) and Sergio Arias (Colono Bikestation Kölbi),
The members of the red team proposed from the beginning with Jason Huertas (Colono Bikestation Kölbi) forcing the leading group to march towards Turrrialba. Also with Daniel Bonilla joining the cause of Bryan Salas (Costa Frut Go Rigo Go Giant), the winner of the mountain prize in Quebrada Honda and although it seemed that the points of the first Flying Meta would also be shared, Marcos Sánchez (Distribuidora Cruz- Tecnoforest-Atomica-Trama Sport) came from behind to beat them and become the leader of the specialty.
The three runners were absorbed by the small leading group, from which Gabriel Rojas (7C Economy Lacoinex) and Richard Zamora (Coffee Expert-Repuestos Mena–Volcano) jumped, who remained at the head of the race until the second mountain pass of the day in El Passed.
The stage victory was at stake from that moment on with Sebastián Moya attacking alone with the firm intention of reversing the history of Berlin in San Ramón. Meanwhile, nine runners traveled with extreme vigilance, making up the leading group at about 40 seconds.
Moya, found the extra fuel to propel his bicycle in the crowd that monopolized the Mirador de Orosi cheering his name, making the triumphant entry to Paraíso, while both Kevin Rivera (7C Economy Lacoinex) and Sergio Arias (Colono Bikestation Kölbi) insisted on doing weaken the leader, but Juan Diego Alba (Movistar Best PC) looked solid and supported by his teammate Richard Huera.
Finally, Sebastián Moya wildly celebrated his victory, ratifying his dominance in the mountain classification. While Leandro Varela, Kevin Rivera, Sergio Arias and Juan Diego Alba attacked each other until the goal itself without making any difference.
Juan Diego Alba (Movistar Best PC) is very close to becoming champion. The Vuelta a Costa Rica Telecable 2023 will close this Monday with the traditional President Circuit in the La Aurora Park in Heredia agreed upon 99 kilometers away.
