The young rider from Antioquia, Stefany Cuadrado, was crowned world champion in the Junior World Sprint Championship held in Louyang, China.
Born in Caucasia, Antioquia, she defeated in the final the British Georgette Rand. It is the second world title of the ‘Pistard Paisa’ after the one she won last year in Cali in the keirin event.
The sprint final was decided in two rounds, the last one with absolute authority. Both the Colombian and the Briton beat their respective semifinal rivals, Shuyan Luo and Liliya Tatarinoff. The Chinese won the bronze in the B final, also without the need for a tiebreaker,
The gold medal won by the Antioquian is the 19th medal of Colombia in its history in the World Junior Track Championships, and the eighth gold medal.
It should be recalled that Cuadrado has just set the world junior record in the 200 meters during her performance at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The Junior National Team led by John Jaime Gonzalez will look for more medals this Saturday in the fourth day of competitions in the UCI competition, which takes place in the velodrome of Luoyang New District, in China.
