The third stage of the Tour of Panama 2023 has left the Colombian Miguel Ángel “Superman” López as leader, a jersey that continues to dance in Team Medellín-EPM; while the best Panamanian overall is Carlos Samudio from Chiriqui (Rali Giant).
Today’s Monday journey was 109.5 kilometers between Chame, Las Uvas de San Carlos, the entrance to Playa Blanca, Las Uvas de San Carlos, Bejuco and Altos del María in the province of Panama Oeste, entering the finish line Miguel Ángel López in the company of Oscar Sevilla, marking both a time of 2 hours 56 minutes and 19 seconds.
Carlos Samudio once again occupied the podium in the stage, being third at nine seconds, followed by his fellow rider Roberto González (Rali Giant) who arrived 45 seconds behind “Superman” López.
“It has been a stage with a lot of heat in the first stages, where the team did a great job, then came the ascent and there we felt strong to be able to maintain the leadership in the team,” said López, who becomes the third leader of this race and owner of the mountain classification.
For his part, Carlos Samudio, pointed out that the day was practically defined in the last five or six kilometers, where a small group was put together where they could get in to achieve the result.
The individual general is headed for now by Miguel Ángel López who adds 4 hours 51 minutes and 33 seconds; Escorted by Oscar Sevilla who appears at 1:02 minute and third is Carlos Samudio with a difference of 1:30 minute. Former leader Wilmar Parades is fourth at 2:40 minutes.
López also leads the Points classification with 30 units, followed by Costa Rican Sebastián Brenes (Seven Card-Economy-Lacoinex) with 25, who dominated the two intermediate sprints of this task.
For this Tuesday the fourth stage will be run, taking the province of Colón as its setting. The route is between Sherman, on the Costa Abajo de Colón, Puente Atlántico, Nuevo Bolívar, Puente Atlántico, Puente Chagres, Batería 35, Piña and arrival in Miguel de la Borda for a total of 92.8 kilometers.
Two third-category mountain prizes and two intermediate sprints will face each other this Tuesday on Colón soil.
