Although the Grand Depart of the 2026 Vuelta a España is already known to be held in Monaco, surprisingly the Grand Depart of the 2025 edition remained a mystery… until now.

As revealed by the Italian media La Repubblica, the start of La Vuelta will take place next year in the Piedmont region. The 80th edition of the race will start in Venaria Reale, a municipality located in the city of Turin, and will remain four stages on Italian roads before its final march to Spain.

This will be the sixth time that the Vuelta a España will start outside the country. The previous five were in Lisbon, in 1997, Assen, in 2009, Nimes, in 2017, Utrecht, in 2022, and the last one in Lisbon, this past year, where the great protagonist of the three days raced on Portuguese roads was the intense heat.

Details of the Italian stages of the Vuelta a España 2025

What is known so far about the first stages of the Vuelta a España 2025 has been revealed by media outlet Torino Cronaca. The opening day, which will start in Venaria Reale, will finish in Novara. It will be a day for the sprinters, meaning that it will be necessary to wait for the fight for the general classification to begin. In 2024, the Vuelta started with an opening time trial in Portugal won by Brandon McNulty.

The second stage, also in Italy, will be a hilly route from Cherasco to Alba. Nothing more is known at this time. The penultimate stage, to be contested on Italian roads, will start in San Maurizio Canavese, and is expected to finish high in Ceres.

The final day in Italy will begin with a start in Bussoleno. From there, the peloton will approach the border with France, and cross it before reaching an as-yet-unknown finish. The road will then fly back to Spain with the finish of stage 5.
