Around 125 thousand euros is assigned by the International Cycling Union (UCI) to distribute in metallic prizes to the different podiums of the World Cycling Championship in Glasgow 2023, which takes place from August 3 to 13.
Of this amount, the largest percentage goes to Elite category races and as a detail to take into account, both men and women will receive identical prizes in this event that for the first time brings together 13 cycling modalities in the same competition.
The monarchs in the Elite events receive the corresponding €8,000, a figure that usually, following a tradition that has been respected for decades in road cycling, is distributed among all the members of the team that makes up the winner.
Second place pocketed €4,000, while third place received €2,000. That same figure will be received by those who occupy the podium in the individual time trial events in both the male and female categories.
However, neither the road test nor the individual time trial are the ones that receive the best awards, since €26,250 will be distributed to the teams that set the best times in the mixed team time trial modality, distributed as €15,000 to the winner, €7,500. for the second and €3,750 for whoever achieves the bronze medal.
As expected, Junior category cyclists receive the least amount of money for prizes, with €2,000 being awarded to the winner, €1,000 to the second and €500 to the third. Modest prizes for a world-class event and that are far from those awarded by a test like the Tour de France.
