The fourth stage of the Tour of Costa Rica 2024 was won by Byron Guamá (Movistar Best PC). The Ecuadorian was the strongest of the breakaway at the end and won in the bunch, after riding 102.2 kilometers between Orotina and Quepos.

The 39-year-old South American rider, who achieved his second victory of the year, beat the Costa Rican Luis Murillo (CMS-Prefabricados San Carlos) and the Mexican Ignacio Prado (Canel’s-Java), who came in second and third, respectively.

The breakaway of the day was led by Luis Murillo (CMS-Prefabricados San Carlos), Ignacio Prado (Canel’s-Java), Cormac McGeough (Canel’s-Java), Byron Guamá (Movistar Best PC), Pablo Cascante (Costa Rica National Team) Darío Rabinal (Guatemala National Team), Julián Brenes (Ciclo Cafe-Coffee Expert), Andrés Alpizar (Ciclo Cafe-Coffee Expert), Conor Schunk (BTR Racing) and John Borstelmann (BTR Racing).

Regarding the only Colombian in competition, the climber from Boyacá, Heiner Parra (Canel’s-Java) was reported in the main peloton in 35th place, 52 seconds behind the winner and remained in the top 20 of the best.

As for the general classification, Costa Rican Luis Daniel Oses (7C-Economy Lacoinex) kept the yellow leader’s jersey. The second place is occupied by the Dutchman Lars Quaedvlieg (Universe Cycling Team), 1:33 behind the solid leader.

The Central American race will continue this Tuesday with the fifth stage, another flat day of 188.3 kilometers between Quepos and Golfito. The successor to Juan Diego Alba, last year’s champion, will be announced on December 22 in Heredia (Costa Rica).
