Ecuadorian cycling continues to show its references and this January 17, Jonathan Caicedo won the fourth stage of the Tour of Táchira and is ranked as the leader of the general standings defending the colors of the Mexican team Petrolike.
Caicedo, with four days remaining that will end on January 21, recovered after having lost time days ago due to mechanical damage and closed today’s stage alone. The Carchense traveled 120.6 kilometers between Tovar and Mérida, in Venezuela, with a time of two hours 41 minutes 45 seconds.
“It has been a difficult stage, with two circuits that did a lot of damage, but we knew how to take advantage of that,” mentioned the ‘tricolor’ athlete on the podium during his award ceremony.
“We dealt a hard blow today, that will also lift the team’s spirits. On our part, we are going to defend this shirt to the death,” added Caicedo, who arrived in 2024 as a signing for the Mexican team after his departure from EF Education-EasyPost and is emerging as one of the pillars of this project.
This Thursday the fifth stage of this competition will take place, which will have a distance of 134.4 kilometers, which will have a first-class mountain section. In this race the Ecuadorian will seek to expand his advantage with his immediate pursuers.
