This November 15, the International Cycling Union confirmed the countries that entered the Paris 2024 Olympic Games by World Ranking, in the sum of UCI points obtained during the 2023 season.
Peter Van den Avele, UCI Road Director, informed the President of the Panamanian Cycling Federation, Vicente Carretero, of the quota achieved by the Panamanian team and the Country Project Panama is Culture and Continental Values, which makes it the only Panama’s sports team to qualify for these Olympic Games, thanks to the efforts of all Elite cyclists who added the necessary points to allow those from the isthmus to be present on French lands.
The Olympic Route is characterized by its length, 273 km in the men’s category and 158 km in the women’s category, its rugged profile, the final ascent to Montmartre and its technical nature, with cobbled streets and star areas that cyclists must negotiate in the final stretch before returning to Trocadéro.
The men’s route will take place on August 5, so the Panamanian team will have to develop an 8-month competitive plan and define which of the canaleros will be present at the Paris flag.
“We will make sure that all our teammates can be in Paris, and that they make a challenging schedule, everyone contributed to this classification, one will represent us, but as good teammates and proud of the Tricolor, the most valuable thing is that Panama is present “We are grateful to Don Vicente Carretero and Rali Store, 80% of this achievement is thanks to them, as well as Pandeportes, who have supported us in these 4 years,” added Yelko Gómez, leader of the National Team.
