The second stop of the UCI Track Champions League 2024 started in a very good way for the Colombian pisteros in the Apeldoorn velodrome (Netherlands), the same that hosted the European championships a few months ago.

Cristian Ortega ratified once again his great potential and won categorically in the keirin race, beating none other than the Dutchman Harrie Lavreysen, Olympic and world champion of the race.

In a thrilling sprint with Lavreysen, the top favorite, Ortega crossed the finish line in first place, against all odds. Third place went to Nicholas Paul of Trinidad and Tobago.

With this result, Ortega moved to fourth place in the overall keirin classification. Britain’s Matthew Richardson finished fourth in the round and lost the overall lead to Lavreysen, whose second place was enough to move up to the top of the ranking.

The performance of the young cyclist from Barranquilla, in the important competition organized by the International Cycling Union (UCI), ratifies the great moment that the Colombian cyclists have been showing.

On the other hand, Martha Bayona continues adding important points and consolidates in the second place of the speed with 25 points, 15 units less than the Russian Alina Lysenko, the leader of the modality, after defeating in the two finals the New Zealander Ellese Andrews.
