The ninth stage of the Tour of Costa Rica 2024 was won by Santiago Montenegro (Movistar Best PC). The Ecuadorian was the strongest of the breakaway and achieved the victory, after riding 106.8 kilometers around Naranjo.

The 26-year-old South American rider, who achieved his first victory of the year, won the duel with Guatemalan Sergio Chumil (Guatemala National Team), who came in second with the same time as the winner. Daniel Bonilla, from Colono Bikestation Kölbi, came in third position of the day, 21 seconds behind the winner.

“Quite happy, a quite difficult stage, I was hard I think the overall was there and I looked for the necessary forces to find a breakaway and it was given to us, good for the team, we have been looking for stages for the team,” said Montenegro.

Luis Daniel Oses, 7C Economy rider remains in first place overall with a time of 33:54:17; Joseph Ramirez of Team CMS Prefabricados San Carlos is second at +30 and Alejandro Granados of Colono Bikestation Kölbi is now third overall at +02:29.

Joseph Ramirez also continues to lead U23 with a +01:59 advantage over Alejandro Granados of Colono Bikestation Kölbi who is second in this section and Gabriel Pacheco of Team Costa Frut Giant AC Marriot is now third at +26:23.
